In any normal context, the fires in Israel, erupting in the past two weeks, might be seen as a mere isolated disaster. But these fires have occurred alongside Donald Trump’s decision to bypass Netanyahu’s government in negotiations with Iran, Yemen, and even Hamas itself. Meanwhile, in the UK, parliamentarians have all risen up suddenly to denounce Netanyahu’s stated plan to kill, starve, or drive out all the Palestinians from both Gaza and the West Bank.
The Israelis have not allowed any food or water into Gaza since March 2, 2025, completely depleting any remaining stocks of food and water. They have made good on their starvation plan, even while their collaborators claim that the Israelis are defending western civilization from those barbaric Palestinians. But who are the barbarians, really? To lay claim to the title of a civilized state requires conformity to the long-standing rule of international law that was set in place by the West itself via the United Nations after World War 2. One cannot claim to be “civilized” while flouting the laws against such war crimes.
It appears that Donald Trump has finally come to see that his Zionist advisors have been wrong. If there is to be any kind of peace in the region, he must seek it outside of Jerusalem and even without consulting them in the first place. In his speech in Saudi Arabia, Trump specifically singled out the “neocons” for some harsh criticism for their policy of trying to impose regime changes and to force the monarchies to establish Democracy. Democracy, of course, is simply a code word for submitting to American hegemony.
I remember more than 20 years ago when President George Bush, Jr. announced in the wake of the Iraq war that America was going to reshape the political landscape by imposing “Democracy” in the Middle East. I took note of this, because I immediately smelled trouble. In fact, I believe this was the underlying reason for the Iraq war. Saddam Hussein was suddenly demonized to prepare the way for this invasion, even though it was America itself which had empowered him for years. American policy did not care about overthrowing dictatorships as long as those dictators submitted to American hegemony.
It appears that Trump is now attempting to reverse course, and this has resulted in enthusiastic applause during his speech in Saudi Arabia. Netanyahu, on the other hand, must be furious. I am beginning to suspect that Trump is repenting, while Netanyahu’s heart is being hardened. Keep in mind that biblical repentance means “turning in a different or opposite direction.” At the present time, we may not be seeing a Holy Spirit revival, but we may well be seeing the first stages of a general repentance. If so, this could lay foundations for the outpouring of the Spirit that is prophesied in Scripture.
On the other hand, I have long expected this outpouring to roughly coincide with the hardening of hearts among those who are oppose this “revival.” Trump’s new foreign policy may be put in the political category, but the fires—dozens of them—suggest that God’s hand of protection has been lifted.
But most people would fail to see this, because they still blindly accept the idea that the Israeli state is the biblical Israel. First, they do not truly understand the difference between Israel and Judah (“Jews”). Secondly, they assume that men’s definitions of Israel and Judah differ from God’s definitions, as seen, for instance, in Romans 2:28, 29.
Even if we assume that Israel has a fleshly genealogical definition, the biblical Israelites themselves are not Jews. They were exiled to Assyria and never returned, migrating instead into Europe, where they lost their identity over time. Those Israelites were detached from Judah after Solomon’s death. During the first century, Josephus, the Jewish historian located them “beyond” the Euphrates River, telling us that they were a huge multitude (Josephus, Antiquities of the Jews, XI, v, 2).
Ultimately, they became the “lost sheep of the House of Israel,” whose “return” was a return to God, not a journey to the old land. Those who repent and have faith in the One that God sent, those who are of the remnant of grace with New Covenant faith—these have the right to the name/title Israel. It appears to me that we are now witnessing history coming to a biblical climax. There are many aspects to this story that are converging in the world today. We see evidence that Trump is beginning to repent, turning away from the horrible advice given to him by his Zionist advisors. We see the Israeli state manifesting itself to the world, not as a blessing but as a curse to the nations (Isaiah 65:15; Jeremiah 24:9; 25:18; 26:6; 42:18; 44:8, 12, etc.).
Since 1948 western nations have blessed that which God has cursed. In so doing, they have taken the same curse upon themselves. But seeing Trump’s reversal gives me hope that the curse that is upon us is now being broken, paving the way for us to truly be a blessing to all nations, thereby fulfilling the Abrahamic calling.
